The Indonesia Civil Society Education Watch Report was launched nationally at an event organised in Jakarta on September 25, 2007.
The report indicates that the general condition of education in India is becoming worse. This is indicated by the increasing number of instances that the poor face in accessing education, the charges on basic and primary education and the decreasing quality of education. The national launch was attended by 200 participants from media, NGOs, government, teachers unions, students, the national commission on human rights, the national commission on child rights and academicians. The launch was well covered in the media. This national launch was followed by a hearing with parliament members and a local launch in Bogor on 26 September 2007. The Bogor launch was attended by almost 200 participants especially from 2 "kelurahan" where the education watch census has been conducted. Two more local launchings will be conducted in Serdang Bedagai, North Sumatra (October 1, 2007) and in Surabaya, East Java (4 October 2007).
The report states that data used by the government has always shown that Indonesia has succeeded in increasing the access and quality of its education towards reaching the goal and target of Education for All to which the government is a signatory. Unfortunately government data is not uniform. Which means that various departments or institutions issue different versions. For instance the data on the number of drop-outs issued by the Department of National Education is This Education Watch is a quantitative study that will provide civil society with data for advocating for free and compulsory education of good quality for all. The Indonesia Education Watch was conducted by E-net for Justice Indonesia a national network consisting of 41 institutions representing almost all provinces in Indonesia. The Indonesia Education Watch team extends their appreciation to the co-operation provided to them to conduct this research and all those who have supported them. They hope that this monitoring will be able to contribute to the achievement of the EFA and MDG goals in Indonesia.l report is currently being completed and will soon be published. |
