ASPBAE’s Basic Leadership Development Course was conducted in March 14-20 2007 at Bandung, Indonesia as part of ASPBAE’s long-term multi-level strategy to build and expand the “leadership corps” in the region, committed to advancing the right of all to learn, and to promoting the learning needs and interests especially of the most marginal groups.     Image

The Basic Leadership Development Course is premised on ASPBAE’s commitment to the promotion of education for all and lifelong learning. The main objectives of ASPBAE’s Basic Leadership Course were to:

The main objectives of ASPBAE’s Basic Leadership Course were to:

  • offer a holistic perspective on transformative leadership;
  • share, learn, apply, critique content and processes of conventional leaderships models;
  • enhance skills and attitudes on processes that support transformative leadership;
  • give opportunities for engaging in mutual learning process;
  • enhance gender awareness and sensitivity within a context of cultural and regional diversity;
  • Gain a better understanding of, and develop a commitment to ASPBAE.

The course was successfully attended by 23 participants from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Singapore, Mongolia, New Zealand, Solomon Islands, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan

The main elements of the Course included:

  1. An Introduction to ASPBAE and the principles of Adults Learning.
  2. Leadership: Understanding specific styles of leadership, which are facilitative and transformative.
  3. Human Rights: laid specific emphasis on Human rights discourses to development
  4. Gender Justice: understanding on gender issues of the region and analysis tools for gender equality. Discussed on the processes of Engendering.
  5. Networking and Policy Advocacy: Discussed the vitality of Networking and policy advocacy for Education. Also learn & understand different ways of building, sustaining networks. Special attention was given on learning on the Education for all initiatives and the role of ASPBAE
  6.  Skills Building: enhancing participants’ skills on popular communication, media advocacy, explore relevance and potential of the new information technologies for capacity building, Networking, campaign and advocacy.       Image

With specific of inputs by Heribert Hinzen from DVV international Germany and. Gayathry S. Venkiteswaran, the course was effectively directed for the second time in succession by ASPBAE Executive Council members, Nani Zulminarni from Indonesia and John Salong from Vanuatu. They were assisted by Jerald Joseph from Malaysia and John Shanth Kumar from ASPBAE.
