ASPBAE's highest policy making body is its General Assembly of Members which convenes once every four years. This Assembly elects the President and Sub regional Representatives to the Executive Council. The ASPBAE Constitution mandates a composition of the Executive Council ensuring geographic representation and gender balances. The ASPBAE Constitution and By-laws provides sub-regional groupings for representation within ASPBAE. The countries where the current ASPBAE members are based are indicated in their designated sub-regions below:
The Executive Council is empowered to coopt upto two members in the Council, to represent interests, not yet otherwise adequately represented from among the elected members. The Executive Council is the highest decision-making body of ASPBAE, in between sessions of the General Assembly. This body convenes at least once a year. The day to day functioning of the network is co-ordinated by the Secretary General (SG) , an appointee of the Executive Council and an ex officio member of this body. The incumbent SG is based in the ASPBAE Secretariat which is currently located in Mumbai, India.
Programme Co-ordination :The Office of the Secretary General (OSG) provides over-all co-ordination and administrative support for all ASPBAE programmes and activities. Headed by the Secretary General, it is comprised of the ASPBAE Secretariat staff - the administrative support staff attached to the Secretary General and located in the Secretariat; and programme and project staff who assist the Secretary General in providing over-all guidance and support to the ASPBAE programmes. ASPBAE programme staff are located in different parts of the region. ASPBAE's membership is mobilised in planning, implementing, participating in and evaluating ASPBAE's programs around the specialist areas of their interest and expertise. Much of this involvement is offered in volunteer time, committing staff support and infrastructure on many occasions. ASPBAE will continue to draw from the goodwill of members in its program implementation as a critical strategy in consolidating the network's strength. |
